3 months agoToday’s visit to the Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo, following an early snowfall was truly breathtaking. The snow delicately dusted the surrounding mountains and the turquoise lake, creating a stunning winter backdrop for this iconic stone church. The contrast of the crisp white snow against the rugged stonework and vibrant lake made the scene almost magical. The church itself is small but beautifully constructed, perfectly situated on the lake’s edge with the Southern Alps towering behind it. The quiet and serene atmosphere was enhanced by the snow, making the visit feel even more special and contemplative. The early snow and timing of our visit offered a peaceful experience, allowing us to fully appreciate the harmony between the church’s simple architecture and the breathtaking landscape. The Church of the Good Shepherd remains a must-visit destination in New Zealand,

2 weeks agoSmall and cosy church with a magnificent view of Lake Tekapo and mountains. Extremely windy and cold chill. Only one service at 4 pm and mass at 6 pm on last week per month. Missed the Lupins blooms near the church as it was winter. Walking distance to the Sheep Dog Memorial. A Pedestrian Swing Bridge to the Coach carpark.

2 months agoQuite important to note is that the church itself is only open during service time, and not sure if anyone is allowed to enter. The gardens outside are open a few hours a day, and closed around 4PM on the day I came. Nevertheless it was beautiful to visit one of the most iconic buildings in New Zealand! Gorgeous!

6 months ago👍 Like my review! As a person of faith, visiting Lake Tekapo Church of the Good Shepherd was really rewarding including our time attending the church service witness the lay people were involved from start to end. The grounds are lovely including the beach but the details of the stonework was amazing. The best time to get photos of the church outside is in the early morning or when they start closing the gate in the late afternoon to the evening. Photographs are not to be taken aside so bring a high zoom lens for those lucky shots. The staff of the church are not only helpful but are very spiritual too on their Christian faith. I would highly recommend to our friends and family.
