St Stephen’s (Anglican) Church is a beloved church nestled in the friendly community of Onerahi, Whangārei. This beautiful place of worship is surrounded by lovely community gardens that invite connection and peace. The church is known for its unique and heartwarming traditions, such as daily baking of fresh sourdough bread by Paul the deacon, fostering connections through shared food and fellowship. Community activities abound, including gardening sessions, knitting and sewing groups, and upcoming workshops that welcome everyone to participate and grow together. The church’s atmosphere is warm and hospitable, creating a true sense of belonging. Whether attending Sunday services or joining in community projects, visitors and locals alike find St Stephen’s a nurturing spiritual and social hub that honors tradition while embracing community spirit.

a year agoA beautiful wee church in lovely community gardens. Paul the deacon bakes fresh, sour dough bread here every day. What a wonderful way for us to connect within our community. Community gardening every Friday 10-2 bring something for a shared lunch. Knitting and sewing group the 2nd Thursday of each month. I will be commencing sewing workshops here in the near future also. Services on sunday go along or contact Paul the Decon for further information.
