6 years agoThe Church of St. James is a historic Anglican church built along State Highway 6 just before the valley and entrance into the glacier area. Built in the early 1930s, at one time there was a view of the glacier that could be seen through the altar windows. What a view that would have been during services. The church is a singe hall of simple construction and open for visitation even during non-service times. You can easily pop in for a quick look around during visits to Franz Josef. There is historical information posted on the wall of the small room before you enter the worship hall. The outside of the church is nice as well. In addition to a attractive exterior, there is a garden and nice views into the valley and mountains behind the church. Note: With short walking distance, there is also the historic Lady of the Alps Catholic Church. It is worth a look-see as well if you enjoy visiting churches and old buildings during your travels.

5 years agoYou can easily pay a visit to the small wooden church at the southern end of the small town of Franz Josef. A year ago, Local Guide BradJill Travels visited the church and wrote an interesting and readable review to which I can't add anything: "The Church of St. James is a historic Anglican church built on State Highway 6 just before the valley and entrance to the glacier area. Built in the early 1930s, there was once a view of the glacier that could be seen through the altar windows. What a view that would have been during services. The church is a simple hall that can also be visited outside of service times. When you visit Franz Josef, you can easily look around. There is historical information on the wall of the small room before you enter the worship space. The exterior of the church is also beautiful. In addition to an attractive exterior, there is a garden and a beautiful view of the valley and mountains behind the church. Note: There is also a historic Catholic Frauenkirche a short distance away. It’s also worth checking out if you like visiting churches and old buildings on your travels.”
