Cultivating a Resilient Community, One Garden at a Time
Grow Te Puke is a thriving community initiative dedicated to fostering kai resilience and food security in the Te Puke region. As part of the wider Vector Group Charitable Trust, this project is a living example of how a community can come together to empower itself through the simple act of growing food. Grow Te Puke is built on the principle of sharing—sharing knowledge, skills, seeds, and seedlings to make gardening accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their experience level.
Our Mission:
Grow Te Puke’s mission is to help local residents become more self-sufficient and connected by cultivating a “backyard supermarket.” We believe that by teaching people how to grow their own food, we can reduce dependence on global supply chains, strengthen community bonds, and promote healthier living.
What We Offer:
Workshops & Events: We host regular workshops and events that cover everything from composting and soil health to seed saving and pest control. These gatherings are not just about learning—they’re a chance to connect with fellow gardeners, share stories, and celebrate successes.
Seed Library & Swaps: Our initiatives, like the seed trolley and crop swap events, make it easy for residents to access seeds and seedlings. You can take what you need and leave your own harvested seeds to be redistributed, creating a sustainable cycle of sharing.
Expert Guidance: Think of us as your friendly gardening mentors. Whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or just starting out, we are here to provide support and guidance on your growing journey.
Community Collaboration: Grow Te Puke works in close partnership with other local organizations, schools, and community groups to amplify our impact and reach. We believe that by working together, we can cultivate a more resilient and delicious future for Te Puke.
Join the Movement:
Growing food is a powerful way to connect with the land and with each other. We invite you to get involved, whether it’s by attending a workshop, participating in a crop swap, or simply following our journey online. Together, we can build a stronger, more food-secure Te Puke.
