a month agoThis place was a fun and unique experience! We did the 45-minute hike, which was manageable and enjoyable. Just be aware of the strong sulfur smell coming from the volcano—it’s quite pungent and smells like rotten eggs. I recommend bringing a mask or face covering to help with the odor. The volcanic smoke was fascinating to see, and the bright yellow color of the rocks from the sulfur made the landscape feel almost otherworldly. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for something different!

2 weeks agoGreat place but beware of the estimated time they say. You can do in 2 hours but you need to walk quite fast and not too much stop. I would say 3 hours would better if you want to appreciate your walk

3 months agoWe choose not to come for the artificially generated geyser, but that did not matter. The visit to Waiotapu was a true magical wonder. I was in awe at so many points during this walk by the diversity of the incredible nature here. It is mind-blowing to see how much volcanic activity there is in this area. Do the full walk, you will not regret it. We have spent about 2.5 hours in this wonderland. Highly recommended! You can just buy tickets at the door.

a month agoDefinitely worth a visit. The geyser is pretty weird though. They stuff soap in it to make it erupt. I definitely recommend the walk though. I do thunk Te Puia is more photogenic and accessible (but much smaller for the geothermal portion).

3 months agoWonderful geothermal landscape. From the visitor centre the trail starts and there are 3 walks you can take. The shortest one is 45minutes and about 1.5km. The main attraction here is the Champagne pool - a large hot pool with vapors blowing out, the pool itself is very colourful, there are few others like the one with the sulphur which looks very nice. Great place to view the geo thermal activities ..
