Atawhai Care Centre and Village

Leading up to the passing of my Nan, nurses continuously called her by the wrong name instead of calling her by her preferred name. If someone wants to be referred to as their preferred name they should be called that. The day before my Nan passed away, she had a stroke and was unable to eat anything, she couldn’t chew or swallow and was given a sponge and yet, she was still brought solid food when time and time again staff had been told she was unable to eat her solids. The day she passed away, we were given an invoice only hours after she passed, it was not only terrible and extremely painful to receive but also receiving flowers of condolences and then a reminder to pay it, was heartless and distasteful. Although I appreciate the care nurses who took great care of my Nan, I am disappointed that this is how she left this life, by being referred to as a name she didn’t go by and having my family put through more grief with an invoice to pay the day she died.

Beautiful vibes, staff are happy. Residents happy. Really well laid out. Professional friendly caregivers and equipment and two person cares per person. Might not be as modern but what a pleasant contrast to Summerset. Would highly recommend

Avoid. Very short staffed. Staff often lack awareness and compassion. Dr Mark Petersen plays God.

Great place,clean,fresh,food great,staff so accommodating, outlook from rooms all lovely,sunny,warm and dry.. Well done staff..
