Beach Bar

Beautiful spot for lunch. Sun streaming on to seats looking out to sea at Papamoa beach. Thank you Sunny for your professional service and super sunny manner. We will come back because of your welcome - and the food. Superb beer battered fish and chips and prawn cocktail.

We’d previously been put off by the busyness of the Beach Bar, but as our table next door wasn’t ready yet we popped in for a drink whilst we waited. We got a spot in the window with the best view ever. But it was freezing with the windows and both outside doors open. My drink was lovely and well presented but there the good points stop. The noise is so deafening it’s almost impossible to have a conversation. I don’t understand how bars don’t consider their space in relation to the volume. There’s no soft furnishings, no carpet, drapes or any sound proofing to soak up the noise. It’s busy so people are chatting and laughing. People who get louder as they compete with the music and each other. Now I appreciate we are older than the intended demographic. But we’re not dead yet. It wasn’t the music that was the issue, it was the volume. The Favourite Husband is slightly deaf (although that appears to be selective) and it was too loud for him. You’d have thought anything that drowned me out would have delighted him, but no. It’s fair to say the person having the best night was the DJ.

We ordered Calamari and fried chicken, these were great and our cocktails were also great however the calamari was fried octopus, if you’re okay with that then it’s fine but I don’t think they know the difference as I can see other reviews with similar mentions! The views were amazing! The reasons for the 3 stars is myself and my friend had never been here before, there was no signage to say wait to be seated or that we just go on through. We waited for a little bit as they were slightly busy at the time of our arrival, but they didn’t greet us and continued to walk past us and we were ignored. I guess we weren’t sure on the style that they service, we found a table and quickly found out we had to go up and order ourselves. The bar tended was the best service out of the lot to be honest, he was kind and funny, even let us try the slushies in a small cup before deciding on flavours. After ordering, our food came out and it was amazing but our drinks were dripping onto the floor a lot. Otherwise, food and view were great!

I really enjoyed this bar! Amazing views of the beach, great food and drinks, very friendly staff! 100% recommended 😊! I will come back for sure! We were so lucky we saw orca whales from the bar 🐋

I have come here quite a bit in the past and used to have a great experience however yesterday was really disappointed. Service was poor, no one greeted or offered any service on arrival. I ordered the calamari and instead was given fried whole octopus. Calamari is mean't to be squid, not octopus and I was unable to eat it. When I explained this to the staff, they were unhelpful, dismissive and did not offer any kind of replacement or refund. Such a shame as the view here is lovely and the drinks are good but will not be coming for food again.
