a year agoThis may be the worst council in the whole of Australia after my observation of the condition of the roads near my area, the repeated missed bin collections every week and the cost of damages I have had to face as a result of this corrupt council. In particular, following the recent purchase of our property, we have had the misfortunate of having our sewer pipe blocked by the ingress of tree roots stemming from the previous council tree located on the nature strip at the front of our property. The council has stated that they will not take responsibility for the damages as they were not given previous notice of the issue prior to our claim for damages. I understand that the previous owner did not take reasonable steps to inform the council on the tree roots causing pipe damage, but we have only signed the contract for the purchase on 22 February 2023. The extent of the damage is so far for the pipe section under the nature strip. If these collapse in the near future, it would most certainly cause damage to other structural elements like the boundary walls and our house foundations. As the area of the damage is so far localised in the area of the previous council tree, you would think that the council would bear responsibility to rectify this issue prior to it getting worse. Instead, they have pinned the problem as something I should have been aware of when purchasing the property rather than assisting us in ensuring these damages don't lead to something worse. The insurance claims officer (Tina) is nothing but a mouthpiece for this sorry excuse of a council and I pray no one will have the misfortune of going through this nightmare.

6 years agoGarbage Council. Ever since they've merged with Bankstown they've declined heavily. If you look at our streets and the state they're in, you'll find that the community is both unmaintained and dirty. It is as if the rates acquired from members of the Community are being pocketed rather than being used to maintain and further improve our community. The customer support when calling up the business center is extremely poor, and most staff are untrained and unaware of both Australian Law, and customer service etiquette. I had a problem regarding the Nature Strip in-front of my property as council sent me a notice to maintain THEIR land, I denied on grounds that I'm not at liberty to maintain their property and that they should send me relevant law acts and sections that pertains to their policy. They could not send me any relevant laws, and instead they kept persisting to a non-nonexistent policy. The policy they're referring to is THEIR policy that doesn't correlate to any Law Acts and doesn't require the FREE citizen to maintain public land. It is disgusting that we are harassed by representatives of the community to clean up the mess that we pay council rates for. It is disgusting that we're also threaten to have action taken against us if we do not slave for them so they can pocket more money from the community. Definitely this council needs a royal commission, because they're failing the people.

3 years agoTried to make a complaint today about street sweeper not cleaning up council tree leaves. Automatic reply by phone staff thete was a car in the way. City of sydney council knows how to fix that its called a leave blower. Anyway there was no car so it was an auto excuse answer. How does the council have no responsibility to do its responsibilities and promote this sort of excuse on excuse for not carrying out fairly simple tasks. Might as well not bother at all council would save thousands on fuel as running a truck to not achieve anything is just a waste of time.

5 years agoI tend to agree with everyone's comments here. Slow to take action. When you have an issue, it takes a long time for someone to come E.g. complaints about people dumping rubbish or noise pollution. They don't follow up or get back to you even after a number of calls or emails. When you get a case manager, their phone always rings out. If you are lucky and get them on the phone 10 seconds later they say they are "busy" and need to hang up the phone. No call back, I had to chase them up. Talk about service. However they are more than happy to point a finger and "instruct" people to do things. Not sure if they are under resourced, but possibly one of the worse councils. If this was a private enterprise they would out gone out of business a long time ago!
