FreshChoice City Market stands out as a well-organized supermarket nestled in the heart of Christchurch Central City. Visitors appreciate its thoughtful layout that makes finding essentials effortless, from ready-made sandwiches and snacks perfect for a quick bite to a surprisingly diverse selection of vegan items including a dedicated health foods section. The store’s offering of New Zealand beers, notably low-alcohol options, and specialty products like vegan almond ice-cream bars, speaks directly to those seeking quality and variety. Customers also highlight the ease of using self-checkout and the acceptance of international cards, making it a hassle-free stop for both locals and travelers alike.

3 months agoSurprised that the fresh-produce section is not larger. Lots of NZ beers in cans, including several low-alcohol options. Many vegan items around the store, including a small “Health foods” section and a Magnum vegan almond ice-cream bar in the cooler before the checkout area. Also, some packets of Wattie’s Plant Proteinz meals.

a year agoConsidering this is an urban grocery store in a downtown shopping center, I was quite pleased with the selection. I had no problem finding sandwiches and chips and all sorts of snacks to bring back to the hotel room and would be my driving snacks. The store is nicely laid out with lots of options. Self-checkout worked well and I had no problem using my American credit card to pay for my stuff.

a month agoUnprofessional and intrusive behaviour from security staff I had a very disappointing experience at FreshChoice Christchurch City Centre on [16 July ] While I was at the self-service checkout paying for my groceries (cash first, then card), the security guard suddenly intervened in the middle of my transaction and took over the cash payment without asking.😡 I did not request any help, and there was no reason to assume anything was wrong. I was tidy, calm, and clearly just a regular customer. This kind of behaviour felt intrusive, rude, and completely unprofessional.☝🏻 If there’s a need to check receipts or verify payments, I fully understand — but staff should wait until the customer has finished their transaction and approach respectfully, not interrupt and take over. This experience left me feeling disrespected and very uncomfortable. I expect better service and professionalism from a central city supermarket.

2 weeks agoRude security staff. Very disappointed with my experience at FreshChoice Christchurch City Centre on 9 August. I was refused entry simply because I had a large shopping bag and was told to leave. The security staff were rude, and the whole interaction was unnecessary and humiliating. For a central city supermarket, I expected basic courtesy and professionalism — sadly, I got neither.

3 years agoThis review is for the Lil Ruby coffee bar in this supermarket. The coffee isn't bad and at times in the morning they have a $3 / 8Oz coffee which is good value. The staff are friendly and try to meet customers' requirements. They have a few small tables for two people. Happy to try them again. Thank you.
