HospiceShop Westown

I was EXTREMELY disappointed during my recent visit to this hospice. The hospice is a place meant to provide care, comfort, and dignity, a tv screen in the public area (front counter) was displaying content that included half-naked individuals—which was completely inappropriate and distressing, especially in a setting where vulnerable people and families are present. When I respectfully raised my concerns and asked for the images to be changed or turned off, the staff refused to take it down. One staff member told me to take my kids out of the shop if I “had a problem” because she “didn’t find it a problem or inappropriate at all”. Then proceeded to ask if I take my children to the “beach”. This is just unacceptable and unprofessional!! A hospice should uphold a standard of respect, modesty, and sensitivity. This is after all a family friendly shop! This isn’t just an issue of images being shown, but how staff members showed disrespect toward me and my children for raising concerns in the first place!! I hope this issue is addressed seriously by management, as no visitor, or family member should have to experience this type of discomfort in such an environment.

Use to be an awesome place to shop, still is to a point but now it's more like a retail store . Most of the good stuff that use to turn up is now put on trade me or held for people who will pay good money for it. When new manager took over prices rose by over 1000% over night, don't get me wrong the hospice is a very worthy cause and costs millions a year to run but now struggling families and those who don't have a lot of money can't really afford to shop there anymore or get less for what they can get. The only reason I give 2 stars is you do now and then still get a bargain.

So overpriced may as well buy first hand gear

It has everything you need, even what you would least imagine, from art to toys for the little ones, of absolutely all prices and is affordable for everyone's pocket. If you are going to go you need plenty of time because you will spend a lot of time inside the shop.

I've been going there for years. It was better going back at least 5 years ago. More bargains in the shop. You could find just about anything you needed. These day's it's full of clothing items that sit for months on the rack's. (After all it's just people's cast offs right!?!?) Unfortunately the down side of the Westown Hospice shop is the staff are mostly good but there are some staff and volunteers who are very clicky that stand around gossiping about the customer's. Maybe their sad lives are so tiny they get pleasure out of whispering about the people who's money keep the shop ticking over.
