a year agoI had the opportunity to visit the Kaiapoi Food Forest due to Open Farms initiative. Else, I would not have known about this place - although being a resident of Christchurch, hence not too far away! I was lucky that our host was Brent Cairns, who was instrumental in setting up this forest. It was special to hear the stories of getting this forest up and running. One could feel his passion. I think my visit to the forest wouldn’t have been as good, if I had not heard the history behind it. It is an amazing place for anyone to visit and enjoy- for free! The trees / plants were laden with fruit appropriate for the time of the year. Equally, it was sad to know that some ‘elements’ in the community steal things like water hoses from this wonderful place. That said, the forest has prospered significantly from the time it was set up, and will continue to do so.

3 weeks agoThe choice of fruit trees and berries growing here is varied. What a great initiative for the community for free fruit when each one is in season.
