Nestled in Karori, Wellington, the Karori Community Garden stands out as an excellent example of shared public space that nurtures both community spirit and gardening skills. This thriving garden offers locals a unique opportunity to cultivate their own plots, learn through hands-on experience, and participate in communal activities such as working bees, seed swaps, and social gatherings. Visitors appreciate the garden’s welcoming atmosphere and the chance to connect with fellow gardeners over tea and biscuits. With a dedicated coordinator and a diverse group of participants, Karori Community Garden continues to be a vibrant green oasis that fosters growth, collaboration, and the joy of producing fresh, wholesome kai.

3 years agoAn excellent use of shared public space and opportunity for people to get outdoors and learn gardening by doing. My son and I visit our own wee plot at least once a week, to weed and water and figure out the tricky needs of the plants we want to grow. The occasional working bee allows people to come together, share ideas, help each other tend their plots, swap seeds and produce, and enjoy some tea and biscuits. It's spring now as I write this and I'm looking forward to what this season has in store for this and all of Wellington's community gardens. 💚🌻🍐🍓🥬🧄
