Motuti Church, located along Motuti Road in Panguru, offers a unique glimpse into the religious heritage of the Hokianga region. This small but significant church holds deep importance for local Catholics, with its history tied to Bishop Pompalier’s early efforts in spreading Catholicism. Surrounded by natural beauty, visitors find tranquility walking through the adjacent cemetery, accompanied by the sounds of native birds. It’s a peaceful, remote sanctuary that invites reflection and connection with nature and faith alike.

4 years agoA Historic beautiful church in the Hokianga . Bishop Pompalier was responsible for helping bring Catholicism to this remote area . With room for only about 40 people this tiny Church has huge relevance for Catholics. Located off the West Coast Rd this remote Church is in a truly beautiful and peaceful place. Spend time to walk around the local cemetery and listen to the birdsong , Tuis , Kereru and Piwakawaka abound here .
