a week agoWe've been here three times during our one-week stay in Ohakune. The first visit was lovely - a lovely lady served us. The second and third visits, however, were horrible and, honestly, disgraceful. There is a staff member with a long ponytail who kept asking my partner and me for ID every time we tried to buy some beers. Keep in mind, we're both in our mid-30s, so it's a bit ridiculous to think we look younger than 25, ha! They do not accept international IDs, but that's fine. We went home and returned shortly with our passports. When we returned the second time after 2 days, they did the same thing again when I tried to buy two cans of beer. They definitely recognised me - a disgraceful power trip! I don't want to assume they were being racist too because I am Asian. No one else in the store gets asked for an ID. In the end, we decided to take our money elsewhere - just a street behind, Liquorland! A very nice lady welcomed us, and the service was excellent. Price is also slightly cheaper and definitely more options! If you're considering buying a couple of beers or some wine from New World, think twice!!!
