in the last weekI went shopping at Pak’nSave Petone this morning. My daughter helped me scan the items. Near the end, after she scanned one item and put it down, she happened to stand close to the bagging area, so the screen showed “Unknown item.” When she stepped aside and I pressed “OK,” the screen returned to normal, and I continued to scan the last item. Suddenly, a staff member from the self-checkout area rushed over and said: “Ma’am, ma’am, there is an unknown item and I need to check what it is.” I tried to explain the situation, but she replied that many people cheat and are dishonest, so they have to check. The way she spoke made it sound like we were trying to cheat. I was very upset, but I still let her check. After going through a few items, she found it difficult and then pulled all of my groceries out to re-scan them at the counter. In the end, the receipt matched exactly with the amount ($200.88) we had already scanned. She did not bother to apologize for suspecting us, she just finished the process as if nothing happened. We will never return to Pak’nSave Petone again, because although we were genuine customers, we were treated like thieves or fraudsters

in the last weekIt's my regular supermarket that is close to home. The stock is fresh and the range is good, but doesn't have some specialty items. Lately fruit can be hit or miss, especially apples, so best to check the quality.

in the last weekSadly their product range is decreasing to only high turnover lines, fewer local suppliers, there is shrinkflation, and often products are out of stock. Dissappointingly the deli has mostly overpackaged food in single use plastic with very few of fresh lines, and of course a limited selection of sizes. They still are cheaper for the products they stock

The choices available were good, minus the one thing I wanted that was out of stock, and the staff encountered were friendly and willing to help with any enquiry. Having undercover parking at door level was also a nice surprise. I'll return if in the area and needing groceries.
