6 months agoWe were visiting Petone from Australia & decided to try this Pak n Save. We were impressed with the variety of produce available at great prices. Almost everything was cheaper than the other supermarket in town. Fresh produce was displayed well & staff were helpful at self checkout

7 months agoPAK'nSAVE Lower Hutt hits the sweet spot for convenience and affordability, making it a popular choice for many in the area. Its strategic location, almost perfectly between Lower Hutt and Wellington, makes it incredibly convenient for commuters heading home from work. This alone is a huge draw for those looking to knock out their grocery shopping after a long day. While the selection might not be quite as extensive as you'd find at Woolworths, PAK'nSAVE Lower Hutt truly shines when it comes to value. It’s a great option if you’re looking to tackle your entire weekly shopping list without breaking the bank. Overall, the prices are noticeably lower than competitors like Woolworths, making it a clear winner for budget-conscious shoppers. The fresh produce section is particularly good, with consistently cheap vegetables and the occasional excellent deal. In fact, it's generally known to offer the lowest grocery prices in the area, which is a big plus. Beyond the price, the supermarket itself is well-maintained. Air conditioning provides a welcome respite on those hot Wellington summer days. Parking is ample and thankfully covered, which is a lifesaver in unpredictable weather. The added convenience of an on-site gas station and multiple EV chargers is also a major benefit for those needing to fuel up while shopping. Finally, the staff at PAK'nSAVE Lower Hutt are generally helpful and approachable, which contributes to a positive shopping experience. Overall: PAK'nSAVE Lower Hutt is a solid option for anyone seeking a convenient, affordable and generally pleasant grocery shopping experience. If you’re looking to stretch your grocery budget without sacrificing too much in terms of selection, this is the place to go. It’s ideal for tackling that big weekly shop, and the added conveniences of covered parking, a gas station, and EV chargers make it a very practical choice for many. While the selection might not be the widest, the unbeatable prices and reliable service make it a winner.

5 months agoThis supermarket has gone downhill especially over the past year. It's so dissappointing and I no longer shop there regularly. They are always out of stock on things and sometimes for weeks, or months, so many items dont get restocked for a long time. I spoke to the duty manager about why this is happening and she said it was due to supply issues since covid, it didn't seem like she cared. Strange that woolworths or pak n save kilbirnie have all those items always in stock and have no issues at all. The lack of variety of items is also dissappointing. The fruit and vege department are terrible; not fresh often selling old vege and rotten fruit, like potatoes that are soft and sprouting, i had to return 2 bags recently. They sell old apples that are never fresh. And NONE of the old stuff is discounted they still are charging high prices. The bakery department is pretty average and often dont buy it. And what has happened to the deli department it's so sad now. Another gripe, the hot food department, ie chicken tenders and chips etc, all the food is gone by 1pm, so tough luck if you're having a late lunch, then you are out of luck its all gone apart from pies. Don't they realise 1pm is still considered lunch time? I now shop at new world thorndon or pak n save kilbirnie, not only is the fruit and vegetables fresh, amazing bakery department and they serve hot food right up to late afternoon. The fruit is way fresher, and variety is way better. Feels like this petone store is cutting corners to make even more profit or just doesnt care anymore. Its quite dissappointing that i need to drive to other stores to.get the other things i need. Interestingly, my friends have also had the same experience.

5 months agoThe meat from this store is absolutely disgusting! It's always rotten a day after we buy it despite the dates saying it's good for ages. The trolley they bring the meat out on stands in the isle for ages before they put it in the chiller. Will definitely not be buying meat from here anymore. Also, the bakery sells stuff that's like a week old so make sure you check the dates before you buy anything.
