9 months agoMy experience with having my Mum and Dad at St. Joan’s over the past two years has been overwhelmingly positive. It truly felt like a home for them, thanks to the dedicated and compassionate staff, including wonderful carers like Tracey and Bex, and the ever-helpful handyman, Gary. The staff always went above and beyond to support both residents and their families, even during the most challenging times. One of the highlights was the former manager, Julie, who took the time to speak with every resident regularly, learning everyone’s name and understanding their needs—just like family would. Unfortunately, since her departure, the atmosphere has noticeably changed. The new management seems more focused on cost-cutting, and it feels like some of the warmth and homeliness has been lost. Both residents and staff are feeling the impact of this shift. I hope the higher management at Radius will take a close look at these concerns before they risk losing the incredible, long-serving staff members who make St. Joan’s such a special place. These dedicated individuals are what make St. Joan’s a place I would wholeheartedly recommend—although, with the current management approach, I’m not as certain anymore. 5 stars for care givers, but only 2 for the overall feeling at present with change of manager.

9 months agoMy poppa has lived at this facility for the past two and a half years, and there are some truly exceptional staff members who demonstrate a genuine passion for their work. Bex, in particular, is a remarkable caregiver who provided incredible support for my nana during her time here. Sim, RJ, and Lois consistently create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone. Tracy, who has transitioned from an amazing carer to the activities organizer, goes above and beyond to ensure residents have plenty of engaging activities to participate in. My poppa has never been more active, which has been a wonderful distraction following my nana's recent passing. Candice was also a lovely presence, and my poppa appreciated her care. Unfortunately, she has left the home due to dissatisfaction with the new management, which is a significant loss. The recent change in management has noticeably affected the overall atmosphere of the facility. Staff morale seems to have diminished, and I’ve heard several complaints from residents regarding care and food quality. I’ve witnessed instances where new staff have left residents in quiet areas, despite the availability of a TV or radio. I’m giving Radius three stars because I genuinely appreciate the hard work of many staff members. However, the recent changes have altered the overall environment, which is concerning.

9 months agoMy mother Margaret Thorburn stayed in Radius St Jones but she only survived 6 weeks there before she passed away in 2013 . Although the staff did there very best there was no library , no communal room or regular bus trips for residents like most other rest homes have . As Margaret had been diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease Radius St Joan's did not seem to have the facility's and qualified staff for her condition.

10 months agoWorked here. Made to go to work when called in really sick and wear a mask and could barely breathe to do client personal cares due to staff numbers. Ended up in hospital 12hours later with influenza but the shareholders don’t care. Also got in trouble for advising a family member that we didn’t toilet patient due to staff cut backs for the budget. Profit for shareholders over people. This place put me off putting any whanau into residential care. Glad I now have a job where I can’t break my back earlier and only have this place as work history. And a better work life balance making a lot more money and multiple career paths as well as free weekends. HCA on floor deserve more money and acknowledgement than they get.
