Tree Crop Akaroa If a laid-back rustic cabin in a bush-clad valley of native birds is for you, then so is Treetop Farm. Should you be, on the other hand, expecting gold taps, aircon and en-suite, then maybe not. The red/brown cabin we stayed in feels like a tree-hut when sipping a drink on its deck high amongst native bush with a nice view down the valley. Its basic, simple, private and there's an open-air hot tub available. Morning birdsong was stunning - Bellbird, Tui, Kereru, Fantail and more. The hut's warm colours, carpets and antique decor are relaxing, cosy, sexy, its bed excellent. There's a pot-belly stove and fuel for cooler nights and candles in candelabra. Kitchen and bathrooms are at the farmhouse a short walk across the tinkling valley stream and the hut has a fridge and basic facilities for coffee, tea and light meals. Your host is welcoming, fun and knowledgeable. Check out the chalk notes!

A simply perfect weekend away! There aren’t enough words to describe what Lynne provides for couples wanting a lover’s getaway. Idyllic springs to mind, as does magical. Quirky, peaceful, tranquil, unique, cosy, welcoming. As much or as little privacy as you choose. The centre of Akaroa is only a short drive away for meals. Definitely not the Hilton, but I’d take staying at this magical property over a five-star hotel, any day of the week. Thank you Lynne, for the opportunity to stay at your wonderful property and for the atmosphere you and it creates for couples.

The newly refurbished Verandah Hut is a belter. The day room… lounge or venture into the balcony and gaze across the forest canopy - or climb the stairs and view from its roof. There’s a contained kitchenette, and then a living room and bedroom… all in sumptuous velvets and with an abundance of fur throws… enjoyed we did.

We stayed in the weekend hut. Wasn't what we were expecting but we loved our stay nonetheless! My phone went flat as there was no power so a real getaway it was! Be aware that the bathroom is a wee walk in the morning but not a biggy. The outdoor fire-heated bath was lovely, sandflies not so much, so we lathered the repellant, however it's the first instance I've ever had bugs bite me, while lathered in the stuff. Lovely array of animals- made friends with the cat and dog but not with the hen who was not pleased we (literally) poached her eggs (we were told we could help ourselves and my husband stuck his hand in while mother hen was sitting on the eggs, much to her disgust). It is in many ways glamping so bear that in mind and don't expect state of the art amenities
